Tent Rocks – April 22, 2012

Pam Bliss led the hike and Neal McDonald contributed the great photos. It was fortunate that we had changed the date from 4/14 because that day was far too windy, and we would have had to cancel anyway. The day we went was warm, calm, and dry, and everyone made it safely and enjoyed the view from the top.

The following people came:

Pam Bliss, Manuel and Carol Lopez and their friend Dottie, Kelly and Doug Cole and their daughter Rachel, Ed Fallon and Judy Bentley, Doug Loescher and his friend Mary and Neal McDonald… Read the rest

Los Poblanos Fields Open Space and Acequias – March 10, 2012

Thirteen of us and four dogs braved the cold weather with a light snow flurry about 9 to walk around the Los Poblanos Fields and along the acequia west of Rio Grand Blvd.  We walked to behind Los Poblanos Inn and Cultural Center past beautiful homes.  The day warmed up and all were in festive spirits.  Thanks to Neal MacDonald for the photos.… Read the rest

Petroglyph National Monument Hikes – February 11, 2012

Well attended hike, about 15 people for both the Boca Negra and Rinconada Canyon portions. Roy Moody was there for both and finished Rinconada in record time so he could get to his beloved LOBOS game.

Those who joined us for the Rinconada Canyon hike were treated to a walking descriptive tour of these petroglyphs by US Park Ranger Larry Gore, a retired history teacher. Larry was well versed in the particulars of many of the petroglyphs including the fact that the Park Service is working with the Spanish government to compare certain petroglyphs to the brands of Spanish ranches.  … Read the rest

Carlsbad Cavern Trip and Hike – January 14 and 15, 2012

We had a great time on the trail near Carlsbad and tours of the Cavern. Check out the pictures.

Nancy Carrillo and John Weiss toured the cavern on the 14th. Scott Lake, his wife Nancy Harris and friend Ray Baldwin, also toured the cavern separately on the same day. On our way out of the park we saw several Mule Deer.

The evening of the 14th we were able to have a meal with folks from the Carlsbad branch, Roger and Barbara Holmen. Great to meet people from a sister church.

On Sunday morning (the 15th) Scott, John, Nancy and … Read the rest

Corrales Bosque Hike – December 10, 2011

Pino Trail Afternoon Hike – Nov. 12, 2011

Thanks to Kathleen and Neal for leading the hike. Neal MacDonald took most of the pictures (see photo captions for other contributors). View the pictures to see the intrepid hikers. We set out in the afternoon on this hike on a partly cloudy day. The Pino Trail is a steady climb up the Sandia’s and we hiked until we reached an area of snow and ice. We had hoped to see the sunset on our return to the paring area, and some of us did see a nice red glow.

Hope to see you on our next hike…..… Read the rest
