Eleven hearty First U’s hiked the Embudo Canyon trail climbing up and up, steep much of the way on a cold, windy day – our coldest hike to date. Pam Bliss, leader followed the horse by-pass trail in the midst of boulders nearly to Three Gun Spring Trail. The elevation in the center of the hike is 8,478′. On the way down into the canyon bottom it snowed about noon and we passed water at some boulders.
The group included: Eliza Schmid who sped ahead of the rest with her two doggies who love to strike out being seasoned former Sierra Club trekkers with leader Eliza, their mistress. Others included sisters Liz and Meg Davidson, Rick Held, Nancy Carrillo and Dave Huberty, Dave Colton, Kathleen Rhoad, Chris Glore and Bob Haladay. (Neal McDonald joined the hike for a short time.) All agreed it is a great hike and hope to do it in warmer weather to see the cottonwoods and greenery. The distance is about 3 miles and if the full distance is hiked to the top, about 3 hours in duration. All pictures by Kathleen except where noted.
